Visit of the OCCAR Director TO the 9th Italian FREMM

On the 15th November 2019, the OCCAR Director visited the ITS Spartaco SCHERGAT, the ninth Italian FREMM (out of ten ships under contract). The outfitting of the frigate is being concluded at the Fincantieri Muggiano shipyard in La Spezia.  The aim is to deliver her to the Italian Navy in March 2020, fully on schedule and ready to be integrated with the rest of the fleet.

This visit provided a unique opportunity to meet on board several Italian ministerial  representatives along with high-ranking Italian Navy and main industrial stakeholders.

In particular, Mr. Bisceglia hosted Mr. Barca, Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, Court of Auditors Counsellors and the new NAVARM Director Vice Admiral Guma. The governmental representatives together with Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, Fincantieri and Leonardo High Managers spent a rainy, windy morning on board construction number 6276, visiting all main on-board premises as seamen’ s cabins, helicopter hangars, Bridge, Combat Information Center as well as wardrooms and galley.

At this stage, the construction has completed all expected trials both at sea and in harbour, and after a last class qualification test scheduled in the first week of December, the Shipyard will complete the last outfitting works before the final delivery to the Italian Navy.

As part of the continuous improvement process, lead by the OCCAR FREMM Programme Division and strongly supported by Italy, Industry will deliver the warship without any uncompleted activities, similar to the deliveries of the sixth, seventh and eight FREMM frigates.   The Spartaco Schergat FREMM will join the Navy Fleet fully ready to immediately accomplish any possible mission.
