Third French FREMM frigate “Provence” launched
The French navy’s FREMM multi-mission frigate “Provence” was launched in Lorient by DCNS on 18 September 2013 under the supervision of OCCAR FREMM Programme Division.

The construction of the “Provence”, third ship in the French navy’s FREMM ASM (Anti Submarine Warfare) class, began in December 2010.
Over the coming months, DCNS and its subcontractors will continue assembly and integration of various systems of the “Provence”. The next major step will be the installation of masts with the ship’s main sensors (radars, antennas...).
In addition to the First of Class frigate “Aquitaine” accepted by the OCCAR on 23 November 2012, five French FREMM frigates are currently being built simultaneously and are at different stages of assembly and construction at DCNS Lorient shipyard: the first Follow on Ship (FOS 1) FREMM “Normandie” whose First Sea Going is foreseen in next few weeks, the second FOS FREMM “Provence”, and the FREMM frigates “Languedoc”, “Auvergne” and “Alsace”, the third, fourth and fifth FOS respectively entered in construction in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
