Successful COBRA Live Firing Trial 2017
From 10 to 12 October 2017, the French MoD/DGA and the French Army/STAT conducted a Live Firing Trial for testing a prototype version of the next COBRA (Data) System Software Version V23 to be delivered end of 2018.

French COBRA System at Ile du Levant, with representatives of ESG, DGA, FR Army/STAT and OCCAR-EA COBRA Programme Division
In close coordination with the OCCAR-EA COBRA Programme Division and support from the French 1st Regiment Artillery in charge of the COBRA Systems, the trial took place in three different locations in France (Ile du Levant for Multiple Launcher Rocket System (MLRS) firing and detection, Mont Coudon and Canjuers military camp for detection).
The main improvements compared to the former Software Version are as follows:
- Detection of hostile batteries at a significant range extension;
- Detection during boost phase.
Both improvements were successfully tested.
The trial results are of great interest to the OCCAR-EA COBRA Programme Division and the COBRA programme Participating States. Further Live Firing Trials are planned for 2018 in Germany and in France to validate the new software capabilities.
