Successful A400M static line parachuting tests

In June 2016, the A400M Programme made a further key step regarding its paratrooper delivery capability. From 13 to 24 June, a test campaign was organised with Airbus Defense and Space in South-West France to clear static line jump operations of paratroopers. Up to 30 paratroopers jumped in a row from a lateral door, in the clear sky of Tarbes (Pyrénées). The jump sequence was successfully tested and the drops were performed with a high cadence and at low altitude (1000ft).

This certification campaign is the output of a comprehensive effort of OCCAR-EA and the A400M Participating States’ teams in supporting the development and fine tuning of the aircraft’s Aerial Delivery features, to the highest standard of safety. The French Air Force and the French Armament Agency (DGA) provided up to 60 paratroopers, 300 parachutes and ground installation to support the campaign. The OCCAR-EA A400M Programme Division and its Technical Section ensured the planning and overall supervision, enabling the evaluation of a typical military operation. In total, 15 flights were performed during this campaign.

Further campaigns for Aerial Delivery of paratroopers and loads will continue over the next months, to further extend the capability of the A400M aircraft.
