On-Site Review of Eurodrone Mission System Development Progress Conducted by Certification and Qualification Mission Panel

Rome/Italy, 1 October 2024 – In the context of the detailed design of the mission system of the Eurodrone, the Certification and Qualification Mission Panel composed of national experts, OCCAR MALE RPAS (Eurodrone) Programme staff and industry representatives (Airbus GmbH and Leonardo), could review the development progress of the Eurodrone Mission system and measure the maturity of the design of key components during a visit at Leonardo Electronic Division facilities in Pomezia and Tiburtina.

During a first session at the Pomezia site, the panel reviewed the good development progress regarding the Airborne Mission Computer, the heart of the RPA operational capability. Alchemy between frontline innovation and heritages from mature building blocks already operational in other systems, the detailed design was presented by Leonardo engineers based in particular on the latest fully functional prototype available on site.

During the second session at Tiburtina site, thanks to a demonstration around the prototype equipment, the panel was able to get a deep technical dive on the detailed design of the latest version of the Gabbiano radar, a new generation of the Active Electronically Scanned Array multifunctional radar technology specifically designed for the Eurodrone, delivering superior ground and maritime surveillance.

OCCAR and nations’ experts could appreciate the very good level of maturity of those critical items paving the way of the fulfilment of the Eurodrone operational requirements.
