Athens, Greece,
10 March 2026 – The Director of the OCCAR Executive Administration (OCCAR‑EA), MR. Joachim Sucker, met with the Greek Minister for National
Defence, Mr Nikos Dendias for strategic discussions on Greece’s current and
future participation in OCCAR Programmes.
As OCCAR
continues to expand its role as a key European enabler for complex cooperative
armament programmes, Greece is already actively participating in two major
programmes: the Multi Modular Patrol Corvette (MMPC) Programme, and the
European Naval Collaborative Surveillance Operational Standard (E‑NACSOS)
Programme, a multinational effort to establish common standards for cooperative
maritime surveillance across European navies.
During the
meeting, Director Sucker highlighted the strategic importance of Greece’s
growing engagement within OCCAR. He emphasized Greece’s dual role as a NATO and
EU Member State and as a nation providing high‑value industrial capabilities to
ongoing OCCAR programmes - most notably through the contribution to the
successful Night Vision Capabilities (NVC) Programme.
In
subsequent high‑level discussions, Director Sucker met with the National
Armaments Director, Major General Ioannis Bouras, and the Chief of the Hellenic
Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios Eleftherios Kataras, to review the
current status of the MMPC Programme and exchange on the next steps.Looking ahead,
discussions reaffirmed that Greece may further deepen its involvement in the
OCCAR community, potentially expanding cooperation beyond the naval domain.
