LSS Atlante Successful Platform Trials Mark Progress Towards Final Delivery

Gulf of Naples, 28 August 2025 - The sea trials of the LSS (Logistic Support Ship) Atlante are progressing steadily as the vessel continues its sea acceptance test (SAT) off the Italian coast. Between 26 and 28 August, a new series of platform trials was successfully carried out, focusing on validating the ship’s overall performance under operational conditions.

These performance trials follow the recent dry-docking period at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, where all preparatory and pre-delivery activities were conducted. The shipyard phase ensured that Atlante was ready for this crucial step at sea, paving the way towards the vessel’s final delivery to the Italian Navy, scheduled for December 2025.

The tests are aimed at confirming the reliability and efficiency of the ship’s main systems, including propulsion, power generation, and navigation. Ensuring the vessel’s ability to meet demanding operational requirements is a key milestone in the path towards its full readiness for service. The results achieved during these days confirm the progress of the programme and further strengthen confidence in the ship’s design and capabilities.

While the trials at sea advance, outfitting and integration activities continue on board, with crews working to finalise the installation of critical equipment and systems. Once delivered, the Atlante will provide essential at-sea replenishment, medical support, and maintenance — all vital enablers of sustained naval operations.

Atlante, fully built and outfitted at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia, is the sister ship of Vulcano. Both units are part of the Italian-French LSS programme, developed in the framework of European defence cooperation and managed by OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement). This joint effort highlights the importance of multinational collaboration in strengthening Europe’s naval capabilities.
