First Fire Unit Grifo Short Range Air Defence SHORAD Systems Delivered to Italian Army


Sabaudia/ Italy, 22 January 2026 – The OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) FSAF-PAAMS Programme Division has announced the achievement of a significant milestone with the successful delivery of the first Fire Unit Grifo - Short‑Range Air Defence SHORAD) systems to the Esercito Italiano - Italian Army.

This is another important step accomplished for the Italy after the delivery of the first MAADS for the Italian Air Force in 2025. The handover ceremony took place on 22 January, 2026 at the Santa Barbara Barracks in Sabaudia, home to the Italian Army’s Air Defence Artillery Command.

This achievement reflects the close cooperation between the OCCAR FSAF-PAAMS Programme Division, industry MBDA IT and Italy.
This delivery demonstrates the capability of OCCAR in managing complex and cooperative armament programmes through their full life cycle for the benefit of the forces, to meet todays and tomorrow’s operational challenges.
