New interoperability qualification testing in the ESSOR Programme

Following the first successful Interoperability Functional Qualification Review(FQR) of the ESSOR Programme, a new Interoperability FQR was conducted on 26, 27 and 28 May 2015 in Gdynia (Poland). This event involved radio nodes from 3 different nations (Finland, France and Poland) and verified that the 3 national implementations of the ESSOR HDR WF (High Data Rate Waveform) are cross-interoperable.

This qualification testing included the complete waveform functional scope, complementing the features already demonstrated during the first interoperability FQR at “essential” level, i.e. MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network) features, self organising / self healing with and without GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), data traffic, video streaming, connection with external networks, etc. In addition to the previous capabilities, new waveform features were demonstrated, including VoIP capabilities, QoS (Quality of Service) management, power and data rate adaption, OTAD/R/Z (Over The Air Distribution, Rekeying and Zeroize) operations, etc. All those features were tested along with all the waveform security mechanisms activated (COMSEC, TRANSEC and NETSEC).

A final interoperability session is scheduled by the end of June 2015, involving the 5 different national implementations of the ESSOR HDR Waveform running in the related 5 different national radio nodes from Finland, France, Italy, Poland and Spain. This final interoperability session will be followed later on by a demonstration to promote the ESSOR HDR WF as the most suitable candidate solution for the NATO Wideband Waveform STANAG.
