New contract signed for Boxer

On 27 October 2021, the OCCAR-EA Director signed a new contract for the German customer, for the conversion of 10 Boxer GTFz A2 into a qualified Air Defence (qAD) variant. This will allow the German Customer to provide an operational capability for the German Army against small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

In addition to the classic threat posed by fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, small Unmanned Aircraft Systems are a permanently increasing threat due to their special characteristics. With low signature, flexible payloads, high manoeuvrability and availability, combined with low cost, they can be deployed from any place and at short notice against forces.

It is planned to make the new capability available in conjunction with the German Army involvement in the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) 2023.
