Keel laying of LSS “Jacques chevalier” in Castellammare di Stabia

The LSS programme achieved an important milestone with the keel laying ceremony of the first Logistic Support Ship (LSS) “Jacques Chevallier” for France. The event took place at the Fincantieri naval shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia, close to Naples on 10 February 2021. This important step officially marked the laying of the first ship hull blocks for the bow section on the slipway in the construction yard.

This important event, as well as every step of current production processes, was made in compliance with Covid-19 regulations.

The LSS “Jacques Chevallier”, second LSS to be built under the auspices of the French-Italian cooperation and the contractual framework of OCCAR, will be launched in March 2022 and delivered to the French Navy by the end of 2022.

The bow section has a total weight of 3,000 tonnes and is 73.82 meter long; 27.6 meters of breadth and 20.6 meter high. It will be transferred to Saint-Nazaire (France next October 2021 for the final assembly of the LSS “Jacques Chevallier” starting in the beginning of December 2021.
