The fourth PPA technical - launching ceremony

The technical launch ceremony of the fourth PPA was held on 12th February 2022 at Fincantieri Shipyard in Riva Trigoso, Genoa.

The ship was named after "Giovanni delle Bande Nere", an Italian leader of the Renaissance and a member of the Medici family (Forlì 1498 - Mantua 1526).

The Deputy National Director of Armaments V. Adm. Dario Giacomin, the Director of the Italian Naval Armaments Directorate V. Adm. Massimo Guma, and the Director of OCCAR-EA Mr Matteo Bisceglia, attended the ceremony.

Mr Giuseppe Giordo (Fincantieri) and Eng. Gabriele Pieralli (Leonardo Company) represented the Technical Consortium, responsible for the ship development and production.

The launch of the fourth ship in the PPA class represents a decisive and fundamental milestone for the PPA Programme. This ship will be the first in its “full” configuration, which means it is fully equipped to operate within all traditional warfare domains to include Anti-Air, Anti-Submarine and Anti-Surface.

The "Giovanni Delle Bande Nere" ship is moving to the Muggiano shipyard to continue its technical activities.
