First successful interoperability qualification testing in the ESSOR Programme
The first Interoperability Functional Qualification Review (FQR) of the ESSOR Programme was successfully conducted on 17 and 18 December 2014 in Gdynia (Poland). During the FQR the cross interoperability among the different ESSOR HDR Waveform national implementations was fully validated, involving radio nodes from 4 different nations. This FQR included all the waveform features considered as the “essential” functional scope, including MANET (mobile ad hoc network) features, self organising / self healing with and without GNSS (global navigation satellite system), data traffic, video streaming, connection with external networks, security, etc.

This first interoperability qualification testing is a milestone of paramount importance, as it demonstrates that the interoperability in military radio-communications is achievable through the software defined radio (SDR) technology. It is a major achievement as each nation can use its own national SDR radio equipment and interoperability is achieved through the usage of a common waveform application. This practical interoperability event promotes the ESSOR HDR WF as an excellent potential candidate solution for the NATO Wideband Waveform STANAG and also for the COALWNW Programme.
