The launching ceremony of the Italian FREMM Spartaco Schergat, another significant milestone for the FREMM programme in the framework of the joint Italian-French cooperation programme managed by OCCAR, was held on 26th January 2019 at the FINCANTIERI integrated shipyard in Riva Trigoso.
Under the supervision of the OCCAR FREMM Programme Division and the Italian Naval Directorate (NAVARM), the FREMM programme is moving quickly toward completion, given the tenth and last Frigate, Emilio Bianchi, will be launched within a year.
In December 2008, six major European States signed their ESSOR Technical Arrangement and appointed OCCAR as the Contracting Authority,
and six prime European industries signed their ESSOR Shareholders Agreement and founded todays’ a4ESSOR, and all together signed the ESSOR Contract and gave birth to the ESSOR Program.
At today’s OCCAR-EDA bilateral in Bonn, OCCAR Director Arturo Alfonso-Meiriño and the Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency, Jorge Domecq, have exchanged letters describing the role of the EDA in support of the ESSOR Programme.
ITS (Italian Ship) Carabiniere, the fourth Italian frigate of the FREMM Programme (the third in Anti-Submarine version), has started its 20,000 nautical miles deployment to South East Asia and Australia, visiting eight different countries during four months of operational activity.
