OCCAR has a new Head of Corporate Support Division since the beginning of June. Mr José Emilio Besteiro replaces in the post Mr Geert Vanlinthout, whose contract, according to OCCAR personnel regulations, came to an end in May.
Mr Besteiro comes from the Spanish Underdirectorate for International Relations within the National Armaments Directorate (DGAM). He has extensive experience in the tasks associated to the position, gained in various posts in the ES Navy and more recently in the DGAM.
OCCAR organized today for the first time ever a joint seminar with ASD, the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe. The seminar brought together more than 70 representatives of defence companies from across Europe to learn about OCCAR and the current and future business opportunities that may emerge from ongoing European defence initiatives such as PESCO. The event focused on the forthcoming procurement of night vision capability equipment by OCCAR on behalf of Belgium and Germany, for which OCCAR will use an EU-wide tendering procedure.
SEAFUTURE was held in the Naval Station of La Spezia, and presented a great opportunity for Industries to showcase new products; in fact during the event many technological maritime innovations were introduced during a large number of stages and workshops. This year the event has gained an international profile thanks to the participation of about 140 exhibitor industries and more than 40 foreign navies delegations from all over the world. In this edition OCCAR was invited to participate to discuss its role in defence procurement.
