On 19th March 2021, the Director of the OCCAR Executive Administration (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d'ARmement), the organisation for the management of armament programmes in Europe, Matteo Bisceglia, and the Managing Director of Eurosam, Eva Bruxmeier, signed in Paris the contract for the development of the French-Italian next generation of ground to air medium range defence system SAMP/T NG (Sol Air Moyenne Portée Terrestre Nouvelle Génération). The contract was signed on behalf of the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) for France and SEGREDIFESA for Italy.
On 19 March 2021, the DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement) of the French Ministry for Armed Forces organised a Parisian forum with OCCAR to present the organisation and its various activities to French staff likely to be interested in OCCAR’s activities or willing to work in a close future within OCCAR. OCCAR-EA’s Director Matteo Bisceglia opened this forum with the French OCCAR’s Supervision Mission of the French Ministry of Armed Forces.
On 12th March 2021, OCCAR delivered the LSS “Vulcano” to the Italian Navy. Organised at the Muggiano shipyard in La Spezia, the OCCAR-EA Director, the OCCAR LSS Programme Manager, senior Italian Navy Officers, and senior representatives from Fincantieri and Leonardo companies attended the ceremony.
The launching ceremony of the third PPA was held on the 13th March 2021 at Fincantieri Shipyard in Riva Trigoso – Genova.
The ship has been named after Raimondo Montecuccoli (1609 – 1680), Duke of Melfi, Author, Field Marshal and military reformer, a master of the warfare, who led Austrian armies to victory against enemies of the House of Habsburg for half a century. Montecuccoli was considered as the only commander to be the equal of the General Turenne of the French Arms under Louis XIV.
