First MMF Medical Evacuation Aircraft accepted

The Transfer of Title of MMF T-056 aircraft took place on 18 November at OCCAR and was the third aircraft to be delivered to NATO.

OCCAR has formally accepted the third MMF, being the first MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) capable aircraft of a total of nine Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft (Multi Role Tanker Transport) ordered by OCCAR on behalf of NATO.

The delivery of the first MEDEVAC-capable aircraft marks another important milestone in the MMF acquisition agreement managed by OCCAR. OCCAR is proud to deliver this third MMF aircraft to the customer. Key factors in this success were MMF Nations trust in the ability of NSPA and OCCAR to manage the programme efficiently and the willingness of the MMF team to succeed.

The MMF MEDEVAC aircraft is an important link in the rescue chain for the medical evacuation of seriously injured people over long distances. The MEDEVAC kit consists of up to six intensive care units (ICU), which are equipped according to the most modern standards of intensive care medicine. In addition to six intensive care patients, another 16 patients can be transported on stretchers.

The MMF MEDEVAC will be delivered to the MMF Forward Operating Base in Cologne by the end of 2020.

The technical staff of the NATO Multinational MRTT Unit (MMU) in Cologne can convert the Multi-Role Tanker Transport aircraft to the MEDEVAC role within a short period.

The acceptance process for the third MMF aircraft started on 19 October, and was carried out after strict occupational safety measures to minimize COVID-19 exposure, which required special efforts from everyone. Due to the COVID-19 circumstances, OCCAR, in consideration with Airbus DS, decided to accept the aircraft remotely, by exchanging the required documents.
